Fewer than 6 in 10 Students Finish High School in Georgia
It is our hope that your corporation will support our efforts to provide private school scholarships to economically disadvantaged students. These scholarships provide Georgia students access to a quality education today.
There is an “Education Crisis” in Georgia. Based on almost every objective measure, the Georgia school system is ranked in the bottom 10%.
Graduation Rate – Georgia is ranked 47th out of 50 states.
Dropout Factories – In Georgia, one-third of the high schools are considered dropout factories. Nationally, 12% of high schools qualify as dropout factories. Georgia has the nation’s 4th highest concentration of dropout factories in the nation.
SAT Scores – Georgia’s average score on the SAT exam fell for the fifth consecutive year in 2011. Georgia is among the nation’s 3 worst states. Only South Carolina and Maine posted lower scores. In 2010, less than 18% of all high schools in Georgia scored at or above the national average of 1509.
AYP Scores – 63% of Georgia’s schools met national AYP standards in 2011, which is down from 71% in 2010.
Nation’s Largest Cheating Scandal – In addition to the above, Georgia is home to the nation’s largest cheating scandal. As a result, over a ten year period in Atlanta, tens of thousands of students were promoted who were not ready for the next grade.
